Easy Grader is a free EZ grader and grade calculator that turns any test score into a percentage and letter grade in seconds. Enter the number of questions and how many were answered wrong. The score, the grade and a full grading chart for that test all update instantly. There’s no sign-up and nothing to download, and it works on any phone, tablet or computer.
Teachers use it to grade a stack of quizzes in minutes. Students use it to check a returned test, and parents use it to follow how their kids are doing. Beyond the calculator, we also publish practical insights about the education world, covering grading, studying and the classroom.
How to Use the Easy Grader
- Enter the number of questions on the test or quiz. You can type it in or use the − and + buttons.
- Enter the number of wrong answers for the paper you’re grading.
- Read the result. The ring shows the percentage and letter grade, with the number of correct answers below it.
- Grade the rest of the stack with the chart. Every possible wrong count is listed with its score and grade. Tap any score to select it, or press + once for each paper with one more mistake.
The Easy Grader Formula
Percentage = (Total Questions – Wrong Answers) ÷ Total Questions × 100
Example: A 50-question test with 6 wrong answers gives 44 ÷ 50 × 100 = 88%, which is a B.
How many points is each question worth?
Every question is worth 100 ÷ the number of questions. That tells you how much each mistake costs:
| Questions on test | Each wrong answer costs |
|---|---|
| 10 | 10 points |
| 20 | 5 points |
| 25 | 4 points |
| 40 | 2.5 points |
| 50 | 2 points |
| 100 | 1 point |

Letter Grades and Grading Scales
Easy Grader uses the standard 10-point scale, the most common scale in US schools and colleges:
- A: 90–100%
- B: 80–89%
- C: 70–79%
- D: 60–69%
- F: below 60%
The chart color-codes these bands: blue for A and B, amber for C, orange for D, and red for F. That lets you see at a glance where the passing line falls.
Some schools use different cutoffs. If yours does, read the percentage from the calculator and convert it with your school’s scale:
- Plus/minus scale: A+ 97+, A 93–96, A− 90–92, B+ 87–89, B 83–86, B− 80–82, C+ 77–79, C 73–76, C− 70–72, D 60–69, F below 60.
- 7-point scale: A 93–100, B 85–92, C 77–84, D 70–76, F below 70. Some districts use this, especially in the southern US.
Why Teachers Use an Online Easy Grader

- Any test size: quizzes, unit tests and final exams up to 500 questions.

Students use it too, to check a returned test or see where they stand in a class. To work out the score you need on an upcoming exam, try the Uni Grade Calculator. For classes where tests and homework count differently, use the Weighted Grade Calculator
Frequently Asked Questions
How many questions can I miss on a 20-question test and still get a B?
You can miss up to 4. Four wrong is 80%, the lowest B on a 10-point scale.
How many can I miss on a 50-question test and still pass?
You can miss up to 20. That gives 60%, a D, which is the usual passing line. Twenty-one wrong drops the score to 58%, an F.
What grade is 17 out of 20?
17 ÷ 20 = 85%, which is a B.
What grade is 45 out of 50?
45 ÷ 50 = 90%, which is an A.
Is an EZ grader the same as a grade calculator?
Mostly. An EZ grader is a grade calculator built for one job: quickly turning wrong answers into a percentage and letter grade. A weighted grade calculator combines several assignments that count for different amounts.
How are percentages rounded?
Scores are shown to one decimal place, such as 87.5%. The letter grade is based on that score.
Is Easy Grader free?
Yes. It’s completely free, with no sign-up and no limit on how often you use it.
Do you store any of my data?
No. Every calculation happens in your browser, and nothing you enter is saved or sent anywhere.
